The 2022-23 NFL season has already been extremely entertaining. Bye weeks are starting to take place. This means that running backs like James Conner and D’Onta Foreman will be out this week. On top of that injuries have started to mount up at this point of the season. It is always a great idea to evaluate backup options so that way fantasy managers are prepared if star players miss time. Here are the fantasy football week 13 running back rankings.
*Ratings are subject to change due to injury reports or possible move to reserve/COVID-19 list*
(Check out the section below for details on players already rumored to possibly miss this week and how their replacement options rank for the week)
Key:
Must Start- a player who is in your lineup regardless of the matchup or most circumstances. They Will likely finish near the top of the league in points that week and in most weeks.
Starting RB1- a player who makes fantasy owners comfortable starting week after week. Regardless of the matchup, this player has a high floor.
High-End RB2- a player who may isn’t likely to carry a lineup that week, but has the ability to have a breakout game and is teetering between RB1 and RB2 territory.
Starting RB2- a player who should be started in most lineups and should reach their point projection. This player is started is because of their consistency and moderately high floor
Low RB2- a player who may not be a lock to start for a team every week, but will start more times than not. Their production may not be pretty or win a person their lineup but the production is consistent enough to make a fantasy owner comfortable starting them.
Flex- a player who could float around the territory of being benched, but is started due to the potential to play better than their point projection. However, this player has the potential to flop and causes a fantasy team to lose if he has a bad game.
Deep League Flex- a player who is more of a Hail Mary throw at the position. There are enough reasons to leave this player on the bench, but their upside makes them an attractive option. Desperate times may call for a player like this to be inserted into starting lineups.
Leave on the Bench- a player who should be avoided in all lineups that week. Many times this player could even be left on waivers.

Possible Changes that can occur before Sunday
RB1 Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders
Josh Jacobs was limited in practice on Thursday with a calf injury. In the beginning of the week it was reported that Jacobs should be limited all week. So far he has been limited in back-to-back practices. If he cannot play this week against the Los Angeles Chargers it becomes a committee between Ameer Abdullah, Zamir White, and Brandon Bolden. Abdullah would move up to RB31 between Donovan Knight and Rachaad White. White would become the RB38 between Jerick McKinnon and AJ Dillon.
RB4 Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals
Joe Mixon missed last week’s game against the Tennessee Titans with a concussion. He was limited in practice on Thursday due to the same injury. If Mixon is out this week against the Kansas City Chiefs Samaje Perine moves up to RB16 between Najee Harris and Jamaal Williams.
RB5 Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers
Christian McCaffrey has been dealing with knee irritation that kept him out of practice Wednesday and limited him on Thursday. If he was to miss this week’s game against the Miami Dolphins Tyrion Davis-Price would move up to RB18 between Tony Pollard and Alvin Kamara.
RB10 Travis Etienne Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars
Travis Etienne Jr. was limited in practice on Thursday with a foot injury. If he was to miss this week’s game agains the Detroit Lions Ja’Mycal Hasty would move up to RB17 between Jamaal Williams and Tony Pollard. Darrell Henderson would be expected to have a role as well and would be slotted in at RB39 between AJ Dillon and Kareem Hunt.
Green Bay Packers Running Backs: RB11 Aaron Jones & RB38 AJ Dillon
Aaron Jones was limited din practice on Thursday with shin and glute injuries. AJ Dillon was limited on Thursday with a quad injury. If neither are active this week against the Chicago Bears practice squad running backs Tyler Goodson and Patrick Taylor would be expected to split carries for the Packers. Either running back would be solid DFS plays if Jones and Dillon are inactive.
If Jones is inactive but Dillon plays Dillon would move up to RB14 between David Montgomery and Dameon Pierce. If Dillon is inactive but Jones is active Jones’ ranking does not change.
RB16 Najee Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers
Najee Harris missed practice on Thursdays because of an oblique injury suffered on Monday against the Indianapolis Colts. If he doesn’t play this week against the Atlanta Falcons Jaylen Warren moves up to RB18 between Tony Pollard and Alvin Kamara. Benny Snell Jr. moves up to RB40 between Kareem Hunt and Raheem Mostert.
RB21 Antonio Gibson, Washington Commanders
Antonio Gibson missed practice on Thursday because of a foot injury. If Gibson was to miss this week’s game against the New York Giants Brian Robinson Jr. would move up to RB26 between Kyren Williams and Michael Carter.
RB27 Michael Carter, New York Jets
Michael Carter missed practice on Thursday because of an ankle sprain. If he was to miss this week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings Zonovan “Bam” Knight would move up to RB27 between Kyren Williams and Devin Singletary. Ty Johnson would move up to RB39 between Kareem Hunt and Raheem Mostert. James Robinson would also be active for this game and could have a role.
RB36 Cam Akers, Seatle Seahawks
Cam Akers missed practice on Thursday because of an illness. If he was to miss this week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks Ronnie Rivers would become the RB54 between Alexander Mattison and Jordan Mason.
RB37 Jerick McKinnon, Kansas City Chiefs
Jerick McKinnon missed practice on Thursday because of a hamstring injury. If he was to miss this week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals Isiah Pacheco would move up to RB32 between Zonovan “Bam” Knight and Rachaad White. Ronald Jones would become the RB43 between Ameer Abdullah and Justin Jackson. There is also a good chance Melvin Gordon is promoted from the practice squad and plays a few snaps on Sunday.
RB40 Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins
Raheem Mostert missed last week’s game against the Houston Texans with a knee injury. If he was to miss this week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers Myles Gaskin would become the RB52 between James Cook and Dare Ogunbowale.
RB47 Mike Boone, Denver Broncos
Mike Boone can return from Injured Reserve this week. He missed the past four games with an ankle injury. If Boone doesn’t play this week against the Baltimore Ravens Marlon Mack would be the backup running back to Latavius Murray.
