Each week, The Game Haus will highlight five players to watch from college football games featuring Associated Press Top 25 teams. From established stars to players on the verge of breaking out, we’ll offer some names to remember every week of the college football season.
Here’s a look at five players to watch in Week 13 (All times Eastern):
J.K. Dobbins, RB, No. 2 Ohio State
Matchup: vs. No. 9 Penn State, Noon, Saturday
Breakdown: It would be nice to see Dobbins play an entire game. That has not been the case since Ohio State is so dominant. Still, Dobbins has rushed 1,289 yards with 13 touchdowns on 183 carries. The Nittany Lions, though, bring a solid rush defense that’s allowed just three teams to top 100 yards on the ground.
Isaiah Spiller, RB, No. 24 Texas A&M
Matchup: at No. 4 Georgia, 3:30 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: If the Aggies are to upset Georgia this weekend, they are going to need more than one person to step up. On the offensive side of the ball, that could be the freshman Spiller. Due to a rash of injuries at the running back spot for Texas A&M, Spiller is making the most of his opportunity. He’s rushed for 346 of his 796 yards on the season over the last two games, and is averaging 6.0 yards per carry in 2019.
Delontae Scott, DL, No. 21 SMU
Matchup: at Navy, 3:30 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: The Mustangs needs to be on their game defensively after allowing 105 points in the last two contests. Things don’t get any easier against Navy and its option attack. Scott, who ranks among the national leaders with 14 tackles for loss, will likely be pretty busy and needs to play like the dependable talent he’s become.
Rayshard Ashby, LB, No. 25 Virginia Tech
Matchup: vs. Pittsburgh, 3:30 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: Ashby is a four-time recipient of the ACC Linebacker of the Week, which more than qualifies him to be one of our players to watch in Week 13. He ranks third in the conference with with 92 tackles and fifth with 13.0 tackles for loss. With the Hokies still in the mix for a Coastal Division title, Ashby must again be at his best Saturday.
Michael Warren II, RB, No. 17 Cincinnati
Matchup: vs. Temple, 7 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: Warren is coming off his fourth game with at least 100 rushing yards this season. He’s sitting at 833 in 2019, nearing a second consecutive season with at least 1,000 yards. Warren ran for 132 yards and a touchdown in last season’s loss to Temple.
