Week three brought an explosion of points on the scoreboard, and at the quarterback position. Last week, 15 quarterbacks scored at least 20 points, and nine of those players scored more than 25 points. If we continue to have weeks like that, it will be hard to say any quarterback is a bad play. However, there are two players I would avoid in the quarterback edition of week four DFS don’ts.
Derek Carr: FanDuel Price $7,900
In week three Derek Carr was my number one quarterback for my cash game lineups. And, that didn’t work out so well. This week’s matchup versus Denver presents a lot of problems for the Raiders offense. I’ve already talked extensively about how Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree are almost unplayable this week. Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr. should not be taken lightly.
I’ve also given my thoughts on Marshawn Lynch this week as well. The Raiders’ unwillingness to give him a full workload makes him unplayable as well, especially if the Raiders find themselves trailing. I do think that Lynch could make a difference in this game, if they finally decide to feature him with more than 20 carries.
Overall, I don’t like anyone on this offense. If you want exposure to the Raiders offense, maybe try Jared Cook. Other than that, I’ll be completely avoiding the Raiders altogether, as Carr and company have landed on my week four DFS don’ts.
Matt Stafford: FanDuel Price $7,700
If I were to characterize Matt Stafford thus far, I’d say he’s been the most reliable quarterback so far. He’s established a high double digit floor, and, that he can approach his ceiling like he did in week one. Sadly, I don’t think it will be great for Stafford and company this weekend.
In week two, Stafford turned 21 attempts against the Giants into 13.18 points. That isn’t bad at all, especially when considering Stafford has always been a volume thrower. Meaning, he needs a lot of throws to produce points. Then in week three, Stafford got a more normal workload of 45 attempts. He turned those 45 attempts into only 16.46 points. That is concerning to me, as he was playing against a mediocre at best Falcons defense at home.
This week he travels to Minnesota to face one of the better defenses thus far in the NFL. Xavier Rhodes will take away one of his receivers, and the Vikings have been stout against the run. He’ll most likely have a volume of attempts close to 40, but, I feel like there are better options available. Stafford joins Carr on my week four DFS don’ts.
