NFL Draft Prospects to Watch in the 2016 Sun Bowl

Christian McCaffrey isn’t playing in this game, which will hurt his draft stock, but there are a lot of other good prospects to watch in the Sun Bowl. The possible first player taken in the draft, his favorite target and the man who will try to stop them. Here are the best prospects from this game:

Stanford Cardinal

Solomon Thomas, DE

Projected Draft Range: Second round-fourth round

Thomas is just a junior, but has played so well that he should leave early for the NFL draft. His greatest asset is stopping the run. He is decent at rushing the passer too, with seven sacks on the year. Thomas is versatile enough to play in a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme at the NFL level at six foot three inches and 273 pounds.

North Carolina Tar Heels

Mitch Trubisky, QB

Projected Draft Range: First Round

Scouts are tabbing Trubisky as the possible first quarterback taken in the draft. Trubisky has great size at six foot three and 220 pounds. He has thrown for 3,468 yards, 28 touchdowns and four interceptions. His ability to protect the football is great, as two of his interceptions this year came in a hurricane. His completion percentage is high at 69%, but that is mostly due to a lot of screen passes. Trubisky also has decent mobility to use if needed. He is the main prospect to watch in this game.

Ryan Switzer, WR

Projected Draft Range: Fifth round-seventh round

Switzer has the makings of a good slot receiver at the next level. At five feet ten inches and 185 pounds, Switzer uses his quickness to get separation. He is explosive once he has the ball in his hands and he hardly ever drops the ball. His added value comes in the return game where he can be lethal. A team that drafts him on the third day of the NFL Draft will at the very least get a dynamic special teams player.
