Last season the Falcons started off the year 5-1 before finishing the rest of the year 3-7. I wasn’t a believer in them when they were 5-1 and it was for a couple of reasons. Those reasons are why I still don’t believe in them this upcoming season. First, their defense is a middle of the pack defense. Last year their defense was ranked 14th in points per game and 16th in yards per game. That is not good enough when you are in a division with Cam Newton, Drew Brees and now Jameis Winston. You have to be able to stop those players to win the division and their defense is not capable of shutting these quarterbacks or offenses down.
Secondly, they have a quarterback who is highly overrated. I am not a fan of Matt Ryan. He is similar to Jay Cutler in the fact that he is inconsistent and a turnover machine with 16 interceptions and five lost fumbles last season. Cam and the Panthers are not going anywhere and the Buccaneers are getting better. The Falcons won’t be good enough to compete with the teams within their own division let alone the rest of the NFL.
