Kim, Glover Narrowly Miss 59 at Wyndham Championship

As the second round of the Wyndham Championship wound down, it looked like the golf world was going to see a bit more history this year. Not one, but two golfers were flirting with the opportunity to shoot in the high 50’s yesterday, but unfortunately for them, both Si Woo Kim and Lucas Glover both missed it by one and two strokes, respectively. Regardless, both men have put themselves in remarkable spots to finish in the top-five and potentially win this weekend.

Thanks to yesterday’s course record of 10-under, Kim has moved into first place with a total score of 12-under. The top spot on the leaderboard is an unusual spot to find Kim as he’s struggled profusely in his rookie season, but on top would sure be a nice way to finish it.

Two strokes behind Kim, in second place, is a logjam which includes names like Glover and Jim Furyk. Glover had a chance to beat Kim for the lowest round on the day and move into a tie for first place but his birdie putt on the 18th green pulled up short. Glover would go on to bogey the hole after pushing his par putt through the break and fall into the four-way tie for second that features Kevin Na and Hideki Matsuyama.

Furyk, who is ranked 106th in the FedEx Cup rankings, is out there this week proving he deserves to be in the top-25 of the world golf rankings. Over the course of the past two days, he’s shown that while the 58 in his final round at the Travelers Championship was an anomaly, he can still shoot straight and with the best of them.

Olympic golfers Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed honored their commitment to play this weekend and they currently sit at 6-under and 3-under, respectively.

This morning, play resumed at 8:12 a.m. eastern time and television coverage will begin at 3 p.m eastern time.
