- Melo Trimble, Maryland
Melo Trimble is now the leader of the Terrapins squad, and a large part of the team’s success or failure rests on his shoulders. He must, under that type of pressure, withstand the loss of Jake Layman, Rasheed Suliamon, Diamond Stone and Robert Carter. The team does gain transfer L.G. Gill (Duquesne) as well as three four star recruits. Despite Coach Mark Turgeon having a decent recruiting class, this team’s destiny will rely solely on Trimble.
Trimble showed a favoritism to the pick and roll with his counterpart in Diamond Stone. While Damonte Dodd may not be Stone, the familiarity of the returning center is a vital detail. Trimble has the ability to create for other players off the dribble and he can pass them open. Trimble averaged 4.9 assists per game, a jump from 3.0 in 2014-15, and solidified himself as the main distributor for the team. Additionally, his ability to shoot must be respected by opposing defenses which will come into play in pick and roll situations. Trimble is the key to his team and one of the most influential juniors that has not left for the NBA.
