Most of our favorite teams aren’t playing this Saturday which is sad for all college football fans.
Alternatives includes: Watching the FCS Playoffs Friday and Saturday (I think the Charleston Southern Jacksonville State game is a must see on Friday), the Navy-Army game on Saturday, or follow your favorite team’s recruiting trail. Personally, I am doing all three. This week the FBS coaches are getting on the recruiting trail during the break between the regular season and the bowl season preparation.
Here are some of the top recruits, according to ESPN, that could be playing for your school next fall:
ESPN #1 Recruit: Paramus Catholic High School, Paramus, New Jersey- DT Rashan Gary has a great motor, can play in a 3-4 over the center, DE or 4-3 DT DE great pass rusher, also gets off blocks, has nice hand action, and uses his long arms to engage on a lineman so the lineman can’t get his hands on him first. He is a Mayhem Maker. Reminds me of Fletcher Cox in the way he plays the pass and run and also the size is very similar. Top Five Schools (According to ESPN): Michigan, Auburn, Alabama, Boston College, and Cincinnati
ESPN #2 Recruit: Allen High School, Allen, Texas- OL Greg Little he is a complete eraser at the tackle position. He run blocks, he pass blocks, and he has quick feet for someone of his size. He can get up out of his stance and pull and lead block for the runner. Little uses his long arms to control any defender. Reminds me of Jason Peters of the Philadelphia Eagles in the way he plays and his size. Top Five Schools (According to ESPN): Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, and Arizona State.
ESPN #5 Recruit: John Curtis Christian High School, New Orleans, Louisiana- OL Willie Allen plays in a Wing-T Triple Option kind of offense…which to me sounds like he could be better at a guard since he is in a heavy run-first offense. He moves the line of scrimmage it looks like 8 yards a rush and is super aggressive. But with him being in an offense where his hand is always on the ground, the transition to an elite college guard would be smoother and easier than the left tackle position, but definitely has the body to be a good tackle. Reminds me of a Zack Martin, a Notre Dame starting left tackle that switched to a Pro Bowl Guard for the Dallas Cowboys. ESPN #7 Recruit: Neville High School, Monroe, Louisiana- DL Rashard Lawrence to describe the number one DL prospect in Louisiana in one word…Relentless. He never quits on a play. He plays the run just as well as the pass. Because of his pass rushing ability he could play in a 3-4 or a 4-3. Has a similar body to Ndamukong Suh and their play is also similar. Top Five Schools (According to ESPN): UCLA, Ohio State, Alabama, Arizona State, and Arkansas.
ESPN #8 Recruit: Wake Forest High School, Wake Forest, North Carolina- DL Dexter Lawrence Space Eater. Huge motor for a man 335 pounds. Imposes his will on every OL, QB and RB he has faced. Shows versatility between a 3-4 DT and a 4-3 DT. From various highlight videos he looks a player that plays like Marcell Dareus. Top Five Schools (According to ESPN): Florida, Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, Arkansas.
